I am terribly sorry that I have spent so many years without watching this movie! This movie is brilliant and fantastic. I can explain it just in this way.
Definitely this movie must be one of my top favorite movies. It was amazing in that it did not go in the direction that I expected it to. When this movie ended, I asked myself, "Wait...what!?" I was so confused that I could hardly compose my thought.
At First, I want to mention its awesomeness in music department. This film’s music is composed by Terdsak Janpan & Jay Chou. I love every track of album, ‘Sunny Doll,’ ‘Angel,’ both themes of Xiaoyu and ‘The Flashback,’ The use of piano in this movie is effective, brilliant, breathtaking and touching. When both leads were playing together and The Piano Battle, I was thrilled. Even if you hate classical music, once you try to listen to its music, it would begin to wear down your defenses. It won't let your ears close even for a minute.
Don’t think that it would be a typical school romance with tearjerker moments. It's more than that. It is full of romance and mystery, blending of many genres like School, Youth, Melodrama, Comedy, Fantasy, Thriller, Mystery and Horror (Not horror but listen ‘The Flashback’ and you’ll know what I want to say).
And about ending; it’ll leave you thinking. Yes, this story needs some thinking to be able to understand it fully. I know what happened in the end but whenever I watch it again it makes me confuse. I’m still confused about ending.
Guey Lun-Mei is beautiful and lovely.
Also I'd like to bow to “Singer/Songwriter/Composer/Actor/Producer/Director” Jay Chou. Before I thought he’s just another popular guy who looks cool and sings, but now I take my words back. He is outstanding and genius.
Overall this movie is a must watch and after watching you’ll know that this movie will stay in your heart forever. It's really well thought through, and entertaining as well as it is just beautiful. It really touched me.
The story was about high school student Ye (Jay Chou), who studied in the school his father taught. Ye’s piano skill was above others. On the first day of school, while walking around the piano rooms, he heard an unknown and beautiful melody, played by Lu (Guey Lun-Mei).
From then on, the two were always together. However, Lu seemed mysterious and when Ye tried to get to know her more, she always brushed off his questions by saying that it was a secret. There was a misunderstanding between the two of them, and subsequently Lu never came to school anymore. Ye was heartbroken. But the more he tried to find out, he realized that things were not as they seemed....
